Origins of the programme
| The Community
Counselling programme was implemented in 1999 in response to an
identified need for community based counselling within the
Ballymurphy/Upper Springfield area of west Belfast for those
individuals suffering trauma as a result of 30 years of
conflict. |
Who we are
| The counselling team
personnel comprise 4 part-time counsellors and an
administrator. All counsellors are highly qualified and
experienced in their field and continue to attend ongoing
personal and professional development to keep abreast of changes
impacting on client need. They bring to the counselling
environment vast experience in the areas of Nursing, Midwifery,
Social work and mental Health. All counsellors work to the Code
of Ethics and Practice as demanded by the British Association of
Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). |

Student Placements
| As all our counsellors
are professionally qualified supervisors, Corpus Christi
Services has entered into a partnership with the University of
Ulster and the Queen’s University, Belfast to offer each
establishment student placements. CCS has devised and
implemented a demanding application and interview process to
ensure we recruit quality trainees. |
What we do
| The project was set up
to help address the psychological and emotional trauma in the
community experienced by the community as a direct result of the
‘Troubles’. We offer one-to-one counselling sessions on a range
of trauma issues |
So what is
counselling?
| It is a place where
you are listened to without judgement, where you can safely talk
about the things that bother you. Not knowing what counselling
is about can be frightening and put people off getting the
support that could make a difference in their life. Maybe it
could make a difference for you. |
What can it do for
me?
| Counselling won’t
provide any quick solutions for you but it can be effective for
a range of psychological difficulties. These include mental
health problems such as depression, phobias and anxiety. Those
who experience difficulties in relationships or find it hard to
come to terms with life events such as loss and trauma might
also benefit, as will those who lack confidence, experience a
loss of meaning in their lives or feel that they are not
achieving their full potential. Confidentiality is assured
throughout |
How can I get
counselling
| By contacting us
yourself. Simply ring 90434233 and ask for an appointment. In
many cases we can arrange this within 10-14 days. Alternatively
your GP, Social Worker or CPN can make a referral. |
Is there a charge?
| No! The service is
completely free. All we would ask is that if you decide to take
up a regular appointment you make every effort to attend. As we
always have a waiting list, it is important that every session
is fully used. |
